Dear MOPS Leader,

Once Upon A Time there was a child who spent story time with her mom, listening and learning while having fun.  Is there a way to make this fairy tale come true - a way to make story time fun as well as a time of learning?  After the success of last year’s workshop “A Recipe for Success in Kindergarten”, presented to 23 MOPS groups across Colorado, I am excited to bring you new ideas for story time with Once Upon A Story.  This workshop is designed for parents of young children who are looking for a fun and easy way to create educational story times.
According to the International Reading Association and the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the most important period for literacy development is from birth to age eight.  Most parents are unsure how to best help their children during this crucial time.  Prior to a child reading on their own, they are learning critical lessons about our language as they listen to stories.  Once Upon A Story will help you find the tools necessary to create a love of reading and a love of learning while spending time together.
In addition to ideas for making story time educational, my workshop will give you the steps necessary to make story time so much fun, your child won’t even know they are learning.  With my workshop you will learn how to begin your child’s lifetime journey into stories - making story time educational, memorable and fun.  Following the workshop, you will have exciting new ideas using the “toolbox” that already exists at home.

I have a passion for working with children and their parents and I am excited about sharing these great ideas with you.  In addition to working as a preschool and kindergarten teacher for 15 years, I am the author of 22 early childhood teacher resource books and have presented workshops at many local education conferences as well as national conferences.  In 2006, I started Little Hands Learning Company to provide education and resources to parents and Make Learning a Joyful Journey for young children.  One resource we provide is creating and presenting workshops to help moms start this journey with their children.
